Case Study of the Evaluation Program

Solus Industries’ goal for our client was to increase component system lifespans, decrease reactive repairs, reduce collateral damage, and obtaining justification for yearly budgets. Our client had insufficient information regarding their system assembly and the condition of those roof systems.

Solus Industries evaluated 2000 facilities and employed management techniques to analyze the information gathered. This created the roadmap to implement a workable action plan.

Problems included:

  • General assembly of the roof systems installed on their facilities was unknown
  • Consistent over spending as a result of reactive management
  • Multiple premature failures
  • Exceeding internal resources
  • Drain on revenue from high level of collateral damage

The challenge:
Evaluate 2000 facilities to identify current conditions, develop corrective action plans, and produce short and long-term budgets.

Summary:
A total of 2000 evaluations were conducted in a 4 month timeframe. Solus Industries employed management techniques to analyze the information gathered from the evaluations and create a workable action plan. This plan identified key areas requiring corrective actions, the budgets required to conduct this work, and the results achieved if work is performed.
Specific example of one evaluation performed:

    • Identified a roof system on the brink of catastrophic failure
    • Field of the roof was in good shape but the perimeters and penetrations were experiencing extreme stress from the shrinking EPDM membrane
    • Within 2 years the roof system would require a complete replacement totaling approximately $650,000.00
    • Solus Industries recommended a major repair for $35,000.00 to correct the shrinkage problem
    • Recommended repair achieves an additional 7 years of serviceable life of the roof system and offsets the cost associated with a premature failure

Client’s success:

  • Current system assembly, warranty information, and roof system conditions were identified
  • Current issues and potential issues were identified
  • Action plan and budgets were developed to address all issues

Results:

  • Identified 524 systems on brink of catastrophic failure
  • Completion of recommendations will increase overall lifespan by 2.8 years or 16%
  • Upon completion client will achieve a total cost savings over $135,000,000.00
Solus Industries expertise and management techniques enabled our client to achieve a comprehensive understanding of their portfolio therefore reducing cost.
